Understanding Sleep Apnoea

Sleep apnoea is a common yet often overlooked sleep disorder that affects millions worldwide. It’s marked by repeated pauses in breathing during sleep, which can severely disrupt rest and lead to serious health issues if left untreated.

There are three main types of sleep apnoea:

  • Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) – the most common form, caused by airway blockage during sleep.
  • Central Sleep Apnoea (CSA) – where the brain fails to send proper signals to the muscles that control breathing.
  • Mixed Sleep Apnoea – a combination of both OSA and CSA.

Many people with sleep apnoea are unaware they have it. Symptoms like loud snoring, gasping for air during sleep, daytime fatigue, and trouble concentrating are often mistaken for stress or poor sleep habits. In fact, nearly 4 in 10 adults are at elevated risk, and millions remain undiagnosed

Untreated sleep apnoea can increase the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and even cognitive decline. It’s not just about snoring—it’s a serious condition that can impact your long-term health and quality of life.If you or someone you love experiences these symptoms, it’s important to seek a professional assessment. Early diagnosis and treatment can make a life-changing difference.

Take sleep apnoea seriously—your health depends on it.
